LLM was founded by Brad Corrigan. When he visited La Chureca trash dump in Nicaragua, he saw children and families living in the worst possible environment amongst the trash. Their homes were literally IN the trash dump. He was so moved by what he saw that he created LLM to make change. He wanted the children of the trash dump to have the opportunity to live in better conditions and brought them education, music, art and sports.
Please go to their website: https://www.lovelightandmelody.org to learn more. But the things I wanted to share about their mission are there:
Our Belief
Every child deserves a chance to learn,
grow, and write their own story.
Our Purpose
To amplify the stories of vulnerable children and
create hope through the power of education.
Our Vision
A world where every child has the
opportunity to dream and flourish.
The photo below is La Chureca, the dump where many students used to live.

The people who live in the trash dump make money by sorting out the plastic recyclable material. They collect them in large bags and then sell them to companies who recycle the plastic. Unfortunately they only make dollars a day which doesn’t give them enough money to move somewhere else.

The children who live in these trash dumps don’t go to school or get medical attention.

LLM brings these families out of the dump and puts the children in school. Through education they can leave the trash dump life behind them.

LLM performs concerts in the trash dumps for the sake of “joy, unity and hope” and to bring attention to these people.
